TUCAN LODGE

Tucán Lodge is a cozy accommodation located in one of the most beautiful places in the Ecuadorian Amazon, the Cuyabeno Fauna Production Reserve. We have capacity for 30 people distributed in comfortable rooms and suites with private bathrooms and hot water. We offer nature excursions, cultural activities, relaxation and yoga areas so you can enjoy an unforgettable experience, which will help you connect with nature through the exotic landscapes, fauna and flora that the Cuyabeno reserve has.

IOur Cuyabeno tours have the perfect balance between nature and culture, offering enriching experiences, moments of peace and the encounter with oneself. Led by our naturalist guides, we will take you to beautiful places where you will enjoy dreamlike landscapes, learn about the animals and plants that live in the reserve, and we will explain to you how important it is to preserve these natural sites. Among the activities we offer: walks, night explorations, rides in traditional rowing canoes, observation of birds, reptiles, insects, mammals, etc., teaching medicinal plants, visits to the community of the Siona ethnic group, artisanal production of chocolate and coffee, bathing in the Laguna Grande and much more. DAY 1 

To reach our meeting point you have to travel the night before to "El Puente Cuyabeno", which is the entrance of the Cuyabeno reserve. If you go from Quito on a bus it's about 9 hours away. The adventure begins at 11:00 AM at the entrance to the Cuyabeno reserve, with a canoe trip down the river to our lodge (3 hours exploring the river looking for monkeys, birds, etc.). Lunch and time for relax. In the afternoon you will explore the river and lagoons looking for more wild life, swim and enjoy the sunset. At night you will do a canoe expedition in search of caimans. Dinner. For all our guests interested in knowing more about the amazon rainforest, every evening the naturalist guide will give different lectures like the “Culture and communities, flora, fauna and conservation”.

DAY 2 

In the morning after breakfast you will take a hike of about 4 hours in the primary forest accompanied by the naturalist guide who will explain about medicinal plants, insects, birds, etc. Lunch at the camp and time for relax. After 2 hours of rest you will prepare and tast coffee and chocolate in a traditional way. Before dark you will explore the streams in a traditional rowing canoe to enjoy the uniqueness of nature. You will enjoy the sunset in the river and if conditions permit, you may be able to see pink dolphins. Return to lodge gets ready for the night walk. Dinner. This night you will have the opportunity to know and taste the different traditional drinks of the Amazon.

DAY 3 

Early in the morning you will explore the river in search of birds and to enjoy the sunrise. After this activity you will return to the camp, have breakfast and have time to organize your luggage. Then you will take the canoe back exploring the Cuyabeno river for 2 hours in search of more fauna until the entrance of the reserve (11am), where you can take your transport back home. End of the tour.Lodge services: In your free time at the lodge - mornings, nights or between activities you can enjoy the reading area, hammocks area by the river, our yoga place, our Amazonian spa or massages (40 min/$20). “Check availability before the visit”

This night you will have the opportunity to know and taste the different traditional drinks of the Amazon

DAY 3 

Enjoy a visit to the Siona Community, where you can see the preparation of their traditional bread, Casabe, and the naturalist guide will explain about the customs and traditions, in other words, the culture of the native people. Quench your hunger with a Box Lunch. Straight after lunch, we will visit the Shaman, who will talk to you about the ceremonies in the jungle. Besides, you will be able to ask questions Return to camp. After a long day. And it is time for Dinner. Conclude your day with an exciting night walk.

DAY 4 

Early in the morning you will explore the river in search of birds and to enjoy the sunrise. After this activity you will return to the camp, have breakfast and have time to organize your luggage. Then you will take the canoe back exploring the Cuyabeno river for 2 hours in search of more fauna until the entrance of the reserve, where you can take your transport back home. End of the tour.

SHARED ROOM 6 BEDS

The Lodge accommodates up to 24 people in two guest huts; divided into 3 cabins and 4 cabins. 
Each hut houses 2 – 4 people in double or triple bedrooms (as required) each with its private bathroom and shower.

What to bring?

Lightweight pants and long sleeved cotton shirts are ideal for walks in the forest. However, if you are more comfortable wearing short sleeves, remember that exposed skin may need a light dousing with insect repellant.


During the rain, full waterproof clothing can be uncomfortable as it often gets you wet with sweat instead of water, but rain ponchos are recommendable for tropical cloudbursts. Plenty of ponchos are available at no charge if you do not have your own, and we also supply rubber  boots for   walks in the forest interior.


Comfortable shoes (or sandals), shorts and t-shirts are fine for walking on boardwalks and around the Lodge during meals and free time. And don’t forget your bathing suit!

How to Reach the Cuyabeno Reserve From Quito??

Regarding transportation from Quito to Cuyabeno Reserve, the lodges offer a semi-private bus service for tourists.

The bus costs 30 USD each way, and departs from Quito at night (11:00 PM) to Cuyabeno Bridge on the following days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday. all the guides arrive on Cuyabeno Bridge with their canoes to meet clients and start the trip**

The bus return departs from Cuyabeno Bridge around 11:00 a.m. after the tour. The lodge guide will leave you at this meeting on time for the trip back to Quito. The cost is USD 30 for the ride to Quito, and operates on the following days: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
