Arrival time: ~5:30–6:00 PM
We begin our journey departing from Quito at 07:10 AM, heading northwest through the scenic valleys of the Andes, transitioning from the highlands toward the Ecuadorian coast. As we descend in altitude, the landscape gradually transforms from alpine views to lush green forests, rich with life and color — a clear sign that we’re entering the unique Mindo cloud forest ecosystem.
After approximately two hours of driving, we arrive in Mindo, a charming and biodiverse town known for its subtropical climate, warm hospitality, and unparalleled natural beauty. This area lies in a transition zone between two major ecosystems, making it one of the most biologically rich regions in Ecuador and a favorite destination for nature lovers, birdwatchers, and adventure seekers.
Our first stop is the Butterfly and Orchid Garden, where you’ll have the chance to observe dozens of native butterfly species up close, surrounded by colorful orchids and tropical plants. This peaceful space introduces you to the immense biodiversity of the region in a gentle and visually stunning way.
From there, we continue into the forest for a canopy zipline adventure (optional but highly recommended), where you’ll glide over the treetops of the cloud forest. The experience offers not only a burst of adrenaline but also panoramic views of the jungle below — and, if we’re lucky, some bird species flying by, including hummingbirds and toucans.
Next, we cross a deep ravine using a tarabita, a rustic cable car traditionally used in the region, which takes us across the forest canopy to reach a series of natural trails. A short hike leads us to hidden waterfalls and crystal-clear river pools, where you’ll have free time to relax, take a dip, and enjoy the serenity of the forest.
In the afternoon, we visit a local artisanal chocolate factory, where you'll learn about the chocolate-making process — from harvesting cacao beans to preparing and tasting finished chocolate. This hands-on experience not only showcases a vital part of Ecuador’s culture and economy but also delights the senses.
We wrap up the day with a traditional lunch (included), after which we begin our return journey to Quito. Arrival is expected between 5:30 and 6:00 PM, bringing to a close a day filled with nature, culture, and unforgettable cloud forest adventures.
