NICKY AMAZON LODGE

Nicky Amazon Lodge is located close to Laguna Grande in the upper part of the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve. The lodge was built keeping the traditional Indigenous style of the amazon jungle, lovely huts so-called cabañas with thatched roofs. The lodge offers 15 ample and comfort rooms with double, triple, quadruple, or familiar accommodation including single or matrimonial beds, all with mosquito nets to keep you safe from biting insects during your rest. All furnished rooms have a private bathroom with hot water showers and flushing toilets. The fire safety devices, and rocedures are covered by this eco-lodge. All huts have balcony areas to relax and observe nature; go to the bed with the nocturnal sounds of the rainforest and early morning wake up with the singing of the birds, a quite experience.

Additionally, catering for vegetarians or vegans. Purified drinking water is always available in the lodge as well as coffee, hot chocolate, or tea. And for the activities some snacks are provided too. The bar offers some drinks and exotic cocktails.
Naturalist Bilingual speaking Guides are specialized in Biology and ecotourism and are excited to share their knowledge with the visitors; their experience will make possible to discover the shy animals in the dense green of the rainforest. Their motto is “do the best for the costumer and giving him an unforgettable experience during his stay” Sustainable tourism. 

- A responsible tourism is a key point in our corporate philosophy. Local involvement with the communities is an essential part of our tourist operation in the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve, our range of excursions has allowed us work together with Kichwas, Sionas, and Secoyas community’s.
We constantly provide training to our guides on topics such as security and first aid and more technical talks such as biology, ornithology, environmental  education, among others. Additional we involve to the local staff about environmental education and promote them to keep their traditional customs that their ancestors have taught them throughout generations. Thus, inspiring their interest of personal and professional  improvement career. 
We know the local participation is a great support to reach our goal and to continue providing more work in this area through tourism also taking care the nature through a socially responsible activity.

Our long excursions deep in the jungle exploring the lower part of Cuyabeno Reserve and the border with Peru allows us to visit remote communities, becoming the only way of transportation traveling long distances so we can take donations to small local schools. We always care of the quality of food products; we always look for healthier. Some of them are local products, thus we help to the local economy. 

Envirnmental Policy:
– We have developed an Environmental Policy, which we must respect as much as possible, providing a sustained commitment to local communities and the environment to ensure we have a positive effect. It is about "giving something back".
✓ We take care of our natural resources’ through monitored process constantly. The solid and liquid waste disposal and the water treatment environmental uses biodigesters and filtration systems. 
✓ Our latest achievement in the regular excursions, we have started the using of eco-friendly motors reducing CO2 pollution and lower noise levels. Additional our canoes were made by local communities using fiber material.
✓ We offer more activities such as hiking, paddling canoe and paddleboard to take care the environment and adds value to your experience in the nature.
✓ We encourage to reduce the use of bottles and plastic bags at the lodge with the staff as well as with our visitors and we ask the use of rechargeable batteries with our devices is very important for us.
✓ Our compost system allows us to manage the organic waste at the lodge. DAY 1 

The journey begins at “El Puente' 11h00, the main access to the Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve and our last stop with the civilization. We continue in a motorized canoe downstream for about 2 hours until we reach the Nicky Amazon Lodge. With a little luck we’ll be able to observe the first monkey and bird species along the way. The Cuyabeno river is extremely narrow in this region and allows you to experience wildlife up close. A welcome cocktail waiting for your arrival at the lodge. Later you will have time to rest and go on your first exploratory activity in the surrounding area. After dinner, we’ll explore the lodge's surroundings to look for nocturnal animals such as insects, spiders, snakes and frogs, a live which becomes active when the sun sets. 

DAY 2 

Early in the morning we’ll explore the area looking for monkeys and birds in the awakening tropical rainforest. Return for Breakfast. After we’ll have an interesting activity, we will visit our Indigenous Siona community to share their daily life in the Amazon Basin. we’ll have a demonstration on how to make ‘Cassave’, the typical manioc bread of the region. Additional we’ll learn about the local customs and traditions of their past and present culture. Return for the lunch. In the afternoon we’ll travel by motorized canoe upstream to reach the Laguna Grande. As we explore the lagoon, we’ll learn about the 'Igapó', the ecosystem of the flooded forest and dominated by giant macrolobium trees which provide habitat for epiphytes and some species of birds such as cormorants. After exploring the lagoon, we can swim in the calm waters while watching the spectacular sunset of the Amazon region. Later we’ll continue our adventure observing the nocturnal fauna of the river landscape with some species of bats and looking for caimans before returning to the lodge. Dinner

DAY 3 

Optional morning excursion includes a short trip by canoe, taking advantage of the early morning hours we’ll observe the animals during your morning activities and to say goodbye to the jungle keeping in our minds the best pictures of the spectacular place. After breakfast 07h30 at the lodge you will have time to pack your luggage for the return journey at 08h00. We provide a box lunch for the trip. The ride takes you upstream back to the civilization at 'El Puente de Cuyabeno at 10h00. Where a tourist bus will take you back to directly to Quito.

Early in the morning we’ll explore the area looking for monkeys and birds in the awakening tropical rainforest. Return for Breakfast. Some time to relax before we’ll walk through the rainforest and our guide will share all his knowledge and experiences. We’ll learn how the most diverse life forms can coexist in the nature and survive side by side within a delicate balance. We may spot colorful butterflies, frogs and listen some birds as we learn more about the great variety of flora. Return to the lodge for lunch. After we have short time to rest enjoying the nature, swimming, play soccer or just a pleasant nap.
In the afternoon we’ll take a trip by paddle canoe down the Cuyabeno River taking us through the dense jungle landscape. We’ll observe the wildlife found on the riverbanks, including monkeys, macaws, toucans and sloths. We’ll have a good chance to see the pink river dolphins in the impressive river landscape. After dinner, we’ll explore the lodge's surroundings to look for nocturnal animals such as insects, spiders, snakes and frogs, a live which becomes active when the sun sets.

DAY 3

How to Reach the Cuyabeno Reserve From Quito??
  • Regarding the TRANSPORT transport from Quito to Cuyabeno Reserve, the lodges are offering a semi-private bus for tourists.
  • The bus costs 30 usd each way, and departs everyday from Quito at night (23:00 PM) to Cuyabeno bridge on the following days: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday
  • all the guides arrive on Cuyabeno bridge with their canoes for meeting clients and start the trip**
  • The bus return departs from Cuyabeno Bridge around 11:00 am after the tour. The guide of the lodge will leave you in this meeting please on time for the trip back to Quito.
  • The cost is $30 usd for the ride to Quito, and operate on the following days : Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday
