TOUR HIGHLIGHTS
- Quito: Ecuador’s vibrant capital, Quito, is dramatically perched at 2,850 meters (9,350 feet) in the foothills of the Andes. Built atop the ruins of an ancient Inca city, it boasts a spectacularly preserved colonial Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander cobblestone streets lined with 16th- and 17th-century churches, including the magnificent Cathedral on Plaza Grande and the gold-adorned Church of La Compañía de Jesús, a masterpiece of Baroque architecture blending European and indigenous artistry.
- Mitad del Mundo: Just outside Quito, the Mitad del Mundo ("Middle of the World") is a must-see landmark where you can stand on the equator—literally with one foot in each hemisphere. Visit the iconic monument or explore the nearby Inti-Ñan Museum, an interactive experience where science and culture intersect. Discover how the equator affects gravity and balance, and learn about ancient Andean civilizations and their profound connection to astronomy.
- Yasuní National Park: Located deep within the Amazon rainforest, Yasuní is Ecuador's largest and most biologically diverse protected area. A haven of rare and endemic species, Yasuní is home to jaguars, anacondas, harpy eagles, and the tiny pocket monkey, the smallest primate in the world. This lush ecosystem also safeguards the ancestral territory of the Waorani people and is considered one of the most biodiverse places on Earth.
- Cotopaxi National Park: Dominated by the towering Cotopaxi Volcano, one of the world’s highest active volcanoes at 5,897 meters (19,347 feet), this park offers unforgettable views and outdoor adventures. Located along the scenic Avenue of the Volcanoes, Cotopaxi National Park also features other majestic peaks like Rumiñahui and Morurco, rolling grasslands, wild horses, and opportunities for hiking, biking, and wildlife watching.
- Quilotoa Lagoon: Hidden inside a massive volcanic caldera, the stunning Quilotoa Lagoon shimmers in brilliant hues of green and blue, thanks to its mineral-rich waters. Formed over 800 years ago, this 250-meter-deep crater lake offers jaw-dropping views and scenic hiking trails along its rim. From the shore, you can spot natural springs bubbling up from the lake floor, adding to its magical atmosphere.
- Baños de Agua Santa: Known as Ecuador’s adventure capital, Baños lies at the edge of the Amazon Basin and is famous for its thermal hot springs, waterfalls, and access to the active Tungurahua Volcano. Take in the thundering beauty of El Pailón del Diablo and Agoyán waterfalls along the Pastaza River. The town also offers ziplining, canyoning, and breathtaking swing rides over the valley.
- Ingapirca: The most important archaeological site in Ecuador, Ingapirca—meaning "Inca Wall"—was both a sacred temple complex and an astronomical observatory. Originally settled by the Cañarí people, it was later expanded by the Incas, who aligned their temples with the movements of the sun and moon. The site's unique elliptical Temple of the Sun reflects the Incas' advanced understanding of architecture and astronomy.
- Galápagos National Park: A living laboratory of evolution, the Galápagos Islands are world-renowned for their unparalleled biodiversity. Designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the park protects iconic species like giant tortoises, marine iguanas, and blue-footed boobies. Aboard a comfortable cruise, explore volcanic landscapes, swim with sea lions, and witness the natural wonders that inspired Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
- Otavalo: Set in the Andean highlands and surrounded by volcanoes, including Imbabura Volcano, Otavalo is a cultural gem. Its famous Indigenous market at Plaza de Ponchos is one of the largest and most vibrant in South America. Browse colorful handwoven textiles, traditional clothing, jewelry, and artisanal crafts, all while experiencing the rich heritage of the Otavalo people, known for their music, art, and enduring traditions.

DAY 3: FLIGHT TO COCA CITY TO LODGE IN YASUNI (5 DAYS - 4 NIGHTS)
SAMPLE ITINERARY
This morning we will take a short flight from Quito to the town of Coca, lasting about half an hour. A short drive from the airport to “Anangu dock”, will bring you to “the gateway to the Amazon” where Francisco de Orellana set sail in 1541.
The method of transportation will now be a comfortable covered canoe powered by twin outboard motors where we can enjoy a box lunch and coffee provided en route. This craft will take us downstream on the Napo River for about 2.5 hours to the Napo Wildlife Center (NWC) welcome station.
Here we will take a short break and make use of the facilities before transferring to smaller canoes that are used instead of motorized vehicles to maintain the pristine landscape and habitats. Over the next couple of hours, we will paddle you up Añangu Creek to the NWC lodge, which is situated on the bank of a tranquil lake amid a vast tract of primary rainforest where hunting is prohibited. On this canoe ride, you have high chances of spotting wildlife! Various species of monkeys, as well as large birds like toucans, parrots, and even macaws, can be seen.
DAY 4: DAILY ACTIVITIES AT JUNGLE LODGE IN YASUNI
After a buffet breakfast, experience life above the forest floor by visiting the 36-meter canopy tower. This tower is located about 30 minutes from the lodge and deep within the forest. Get an excellent sample of the 600+ species of birds recorded so far, with a close look at colorful tanagers, macaws, toucans, flycatchers, and even spider or howler monkeys feeding themselves on the nearby trees. The canopy tower opens up a whole new and exciting world to the guests of the Napo Wildlife Center.
Return to the lodge for a typical Ecuadorian lunch. After lunch, there are many options to choose from for your afternoon activity. Climb the central tower for birdwatching, go kayaking, or simply relax in your hammock if that’s more your speed.
You may choose to hike through the marvelous Terra Firme forest to discover the ecology and the role of plants in the complex world of the Tropical Rain-Forest. Vines, ancient trees, bromeliads, and orchids stand out in this impressive natural garden. After the hike, explore the surrounding lake and creeks for the chance to run into a Giant otter family. A delicious dinner awaits for you in our lodge restaurant at 7:30 pm.
DAY 5: DAILY ACTIVITIES AT JUNGLE LODGE IN YASUNI
This morning we will visit the best parrot clay licks in Ecuador!! An early start will allow us to see different creatures while paddling downstream on the Añangu creek as far as the welcome area. Then, we take the motorboat for a 10 minute ride for a beautiful view of thousands of parrots such as the amazon-mealy, blue-headed, and orange –cheeked, among others who land at the natural river-side formation to eat some clay.
Later, we return to the welcome area and start a short hike to the parakeets’ clay lick. Here hundreds of cobalt-winged parakeets remain crowded in the trees waiting for the most confident members of the flock to decide it’s the best time to get minerals from the clay. Marvel as they all take turns landing at this clay lick in a flurry of color and sound.
Lunch at Napo Cultural Center. In the afternoon, visit the interpretation area to learn about the traditions of the ancestral Kichwa community of Añangu through song, dance, and conversation. Then head back to the lodge late in the afternoon. You will be welcomed back with a refreshing fruit drink, and dinner following at 7:30 pm.
DAY 6: DAILY ACTIVITIES AT JUNGLE LODGE IN YASUNI
This morning we will hike along the Tiputini trail. Enjoy the mixture of Terra-Firma and swamp forests while searching for more wildlife such as golden-mantled tamarins, white-faced capuchin monkeys, two and three-toed sloths, pigmy squirrels, and maybe even a carnivore’s tracks on the forest floor.
We return to the lodge for lunch and a well-deserved rest. In the afternoon, paddle canoes will take you deeper into areas of the surrounding creeks with more possibilities of seeing unique wildlife like the hoatzin. After dinner, we can all discuss and share our experiences of the community and Napo Wildlife Center.
DAY 7: COCA - FLIGHT TO QUITO AND TRANSFER TO COTOPAXI AREA

DAY 8: COTOPAXI VOLCANO - QUILOTOA LAGOON - BAÑOS
We begin our journey early in the morning, traveling along the Pan-American Highway. As we ascend through diverse ecosystems, you’ll witness firsthand the breathtaking natural variety that reflects the majesty of the Andes.
Our first destination is Cotopaxi National Park, where we’ll arrive at the base of the awe-inspiring, active Cotopaxi Volcano. Here, we’ll visit the park's interpretation center, explore the Limpiopungo Lagoon, and, weather permitting, enjoy a scenic hike up to the chuquirahua forest at an altitude of 4,200 meters.
Next, we continue to the Quilotoa Volcano, renowned for the stunning turquoise lagoon that fills its crater—one of the most beautiful and photographed landscapes in Ecuador. We’ll take a short hike to enjoy panoramic views of the lagoon.

The highlight of the route is undoubtedly the breathtaking Pailón del Diablo—a powerful and majestic waterfall nestled in the heart of the cloud forest, offering unforgettable views and photo opportunities.
In the afternoon, we’ll continue our journey toward Riobamba, with a brief stop en route to admire and photograph the towering Chimborazo Volcano, the highest peak in Ecuador.
DAY 10: RIOBAMBA - INGAPIRCA - CUENCA
We begin the day with a short tour of Riobamba, exploring some of the city's most interesting historical landmarks. Then we’ll travel south, stopping at two significant sites: the Balbanera Church, the first church founded in Ecuador, and the Colta Lagoon, a peaceful body of water surrounded by scenic Andean landscapes.
Continuing our journey, we’ll pass by the legendary “Devil’s Nose”—a dramatic section of the old Andean railway. While the train is not currently in operation due to the railway company being out of service, your guide will explain the historical and engineering significance of this famous route, offering a glimpse into its past operation.
Our next stop is the remarkable Ingapirca Ruins, the most important pre-Columbian archaeological site in Ecuador. Located at an altitude of 3,160 meters in the province of Cañar, Ingapirca—meaning “Inca Wall” in Kichwa—stands as a powerful symbol of the Inca Empire’s presence in the region prior to the Spanish conquest. The site spans over four hectares and was not only an important ceremonial center for the Inca but also a cultural meeting point with the earlier Cañari civilization, dating back to 500 AD. Ingapirca is also a key point along the ancient Qhapaq Ñan (Andean Road System), making it a must-see for those interested in South America’s indigenous history.
After this enriching visit, we’ll continue on to the beautiful colonial city of Cuenca, where we will spend the night.
-
- Meals included: Breakfast.
-
DAY 11: CITY TOUR IN CUENCA - GUALACEO - CHORDELEG
We begin our day with a city tour of Cuenca, a charming city recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. During the tour, we’ll explore the city’s most important churches, plazas, and monuments, gaining insight into its artistic and historical significance.
We’ll also visit the Turi Viewpoint, a popular overlook that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the entire city nestled among the Andean highlands.
After lunch (not included), we head east of Cuenca to explore the colonial towns of Gualaceo and Chordeleg. These two towns are renowned for their rich artisanal traditions. Chordeleg is especially famous for its fine gold and silver jewelry, while Gualaceo is known for traditional weaving and textile crafts, as well as its enduring indigenous and colonial customs.
After our visit, we return to Cuenca for Overnight.
DAY 12: EL CAJAS NATIONAL PARK – GUAYAQUIL CITY
We begin the day with a short but rewarding hiking excursion in El Cajas National Park, a stunning high-altitude reserve known for its dramatic landscapes and rich biodiversity. The park is home to a network of over 200 glacial lagoons, remnants of the last Ice Age, all interconnected by crystal-clear streams that eventually flow into the Pacific Ocean.
Our hike includes a walk through the mystical "paper tree" forest(Polylepis), named for the distinctive bark that peels like paper—one of the highest-altitude forests in the world.
After exploring this unique natural environment, we’ll descend from the Andes and journey toward Ecuador’s Pacific coast, arriving in the vibrant city of Guayaquil. Upon arrival, we’ll enjoy a brief city tour, visiting some of the city's main attractions such as the scenic Malecón 2000, the historic district of Las Peñas, and the panoramic Santa Ana Hill.
DAY 13: TRANSFER TO TE GUAYAQUIL AIRPORT - FLIGHT TO GALAPAGOS ISLANDS
SAMPLE ITINERARY
Departure to the Galapagos Islands, arrival at Baltra airport, where our naturalist guide of the National Park will be waiting for you.
PM: CHARLES DARWIN STATION
The Charles Darwin Station is a nonprofit organization which has been working for decades together with the Galapagos National Park to preserve the biodiversity of these unique islands. During this visit you will learn about the projects that both institutions carry together to protect the native species and eradicate the invasive ones which are threatening the Galapagos environment. One of the most important and emblematic projects has been reproducing giant tortoises in captivity. The visit is mostly outdoors in a beautiful dry native forest with giant cactus and many other interesting native plants. It is also a fantastic place to find several endemic Darwin finches, as well as flycatchers and mockingbirds.
DAY 14: ISABELA ISLAND
AM: MORENO POINT
Moreno Point is a magical place with extensive lava fields which look lifeless at first sight. Once inland, scattered brackish lagoons form an oasis of life where you can find flamingoes, gallinules, ducks and herons. Along the shore we will look for penguins, marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, blue-footed boobies, sea lions, oystercatchers and other shore birds.
Snorkel: We will snorkel to see sea turtles, cormorants and many species of fish. Look carefully in the long seaweeds and you might find a seahorse.
PM: ELIZABETH BAY
Elizabeth Bay is a beautiful sheltered bay surrounded by large mangroves and barren lava fields. There is no trail here so you will take a dinghy tour to explore many channels, pools and coves teeming with life. This is one of the best locations in the islands to see Galapagos penguins, but don’t expect to see thousands of them, as the entire population of the islands is only about 3.000 of them. Flightless cormorants also nest in the area and blue-footed boobies and pelicans often fish in these shallow and rich waters. Rays and sea turtles are also very abundant.
Highlights: Galapagos hawks, sea turtles, rays, Galapagos penguins, flightless cormorants, herons.
DAY 15: ISABELA ISLAND
AM: URBINA BAY
This place is known for the dramatic uplifting that happened here during the 1950’s. A large portion of the coast was pushed up, exposing many hectares of previously submerged land. Look carefully along the trail and you will find small shells and corals, a proof that the area was underwater more than sixty years ago. The trail will give the opportunity to see land iguanas and, during certain seasons, giant tortoises. Galapagos hawks nest in the area and are often seen flying or perched on the trees.
Snorkel: You can snorkel from the beach to see sea turtles, cormorants and penguins. Fish are also abundant in the area.
PM: TAGUS COVE
Tagus cove is one of the places Charles Darwin visited during his exploration of the Galapagos islands. A trail will take you through the dry Palo Santo forests where you can see Darwin finches and mockingbirds. You will get great views of Darwin’s lake and the large volcanos of northern Isabela.
A boat tour along the shore will give you chances to see penguins, cormorants, marine iguanas and a very unique species: the Galapagos martin, a small endemic bird which is one of the most endangered species on the island.
Snorkel: The nutrient-rich waters around Tagus Cove attract a lot of sea turtles and a great diversity of fish, but also penguins, who feast on large schools of anchovies. It is common to see cormorants underwater as they chase fish through the reef.
DAY 16: FERNANDINA AND ISABELA ISLAND
AM: ESPINOZA POINT
Located at the base of an imposing volcano (the most active in the Galapagos islands) this site is one of the jewels of the Galapagos National Park. As soon as you disembark you will be surrounded by hundreds of marine iguanas, as this is the largest colony for the species. Sea lions bask in the beaches while their pups play in tide pools. Along the shore you will see flightless cormorants, which are restricted to the western areas of the archipelago. Surrounded by cold plankton-rich waters, Punta Espinosa is home for an array of species, including herons, pelicans, oystercatchers, sea turtles, shorebird and many more. Look up in the mangroves as Galapagos hawks often perch to look for their prey. Snorkel: The nutrient-rich waters around Punta Espinosa attracts great numbers and diversity of fish and sea turtles. Seaweeds are also abundant, making this place the best for seeing marine iguanas feeding underwater. Following a cormorant underwater as it chases fish through the reef is one of the most amazing snorkel experiences you may have on your trip.
PM: VICENTE ROCA POINT
Surrounded by some of the tallest cliffs in the Galapagos, Vicente Roca point is a great location to observe spectacular landscapes and interesting volcanic features. There is no trail here but you will take a dinghy tour along the shore to get a closer view of pelicans, flightless cormorants, sea turtles, boobies, Galapagos fur seals and marine iguanas. The area is also known to be a good location for whales and dolphins. Snorkel: Snorkel in the cove to look for sea turtles, penguins, sea lions, cormorants, rays and many different species of fish. Look for fan corals, sponges and other invertebrates growing on the walls.
Highlights: Marine iguanas, flightless cormorants, penguins, sea turtles, fur seals, Nazca & blue-footed boobies
DAY 17: SANTIAGO AND RABIDA ISLANDS
AM: EGAS PORT
Despite its name, there is no “port” at Puerto Egas, but you might see a few remains of the last attempts to colonize the island during the 60’s. The trail goes along the coastline which is rich in wildlife, with marine iguanas basking in the sun everywhere, Galapagos sea lions, herons, oystercatchers and many shorebirds. At the end of the trail an area called “the grottos” is home for a small colony of the endemic Galapagos fur seal, much more difficult to see at close range than its cousin. As recently as 2019, land iguanas where re-introduced to the area, so look around for these impressive reptiles which where extinct from Santiago for over a century.
Snorkel: You can snorkel from the beach and explore an area of rocky bottoms which is excellent for fish, turtles and reef sharks. Often, sea lions are also present and are happy to interact with divers.
PM: RABIDA
Rabida is a small island famous for its reddish lava rocks (rich in iron) which gives it a unique look. The beach is also red and hosts a small colony of sea lions. There is a small salt water lagoon where we will see ducks and stilts and sometimes flamingoes. The trail will take you inland to get beautiful views of the beach and the lagoon. Look for Darwin finches, flycatchers and mockingbirds. In the cliffs along the coast you can find Nazca & blue-footed boobies, brown noddy, herons and the two species of sea lions: Galapagos and fur seals.
Snorkel: You can snorkel from the beach and explore a sheltered rocky area, which is excellent for fish, sea lions and reef sharks. Look at the high diversity of small invertebrates attached to the vertical walls.
DAY 18: BLACK TURTLE COVE - FLIGHT RETURN FROM GALAPAGOS TO QUITO
AM: BLACK TURTLE COVE
Black Turtle Cove gets its name from the abundance of green see turtles, locally known as: “tortugas negras”. There is no landing here so you will be doing a boat tour on the dinghies, exploring shallow channels and small coves surrounded by beautiful mangrove forests. Reef sharks, sea turtles and several species rays inhabit this beautiful area which is considered an important mating area for turtles and a nursery for several species of sharks. Herons, pelicans and boobies are also common here as they prey in schools of anchovies. After that flighgt retun to Quito. Our guide will receive you at the Airport on your arrival and he will take you to the hotel. Overnight in Quito.
DAY 19: OTAVALO INDIGENOUS MARKET AND SURROUNDINGS
We begin our journey north from Quito along the Pan-American Highway, heading toward the picturesque town of Cayambe. Here, we’ll stop to sample the town’s famous “bizcochos”—delicious, buttery biscuits traditionally baked in clay ovens and often enjoyed with local cheese or sweet milk caramel (manjar).
Our next stop is the San Pablo Lake viewpoint, where you’ll have time to take photos and enjoy and admiring the stunning Andean landscape. We then continue to the vibrant city of Otavalo, home to one of the largest and most famous indigenous markets in Latin America. Before exploring the market, we’ll visit the beautiful Peguche Waterfall, located in a peaceful forested area. A short hike allows you to enjoy the scenery and the spiritual significance the site holds for the local Kichwa people.
Back in Otavalo, you’ll have free time to browse the colorful market, where local artisans sell textiles, handwoven goods, jewelry, and traditional crafts—a perfect opportunity to experience Ecuador’s rich indigenous culture and pick up unique souvenirs.
We’ll then continue to Cotacachi, a small town internationally recognized for its high-quality leather goods, where you'll have time to explore local shops offering jackets, bags, belts, and more.
Our final visit of the day is to the Cuicocha Ecological Reserve, home to the stunning Cuicocha Lagoon, located inside a volcanic crater. Here, you can take a short walk along the crater’s edge or, for an additional cost, enjoy a scenic boat ride on the lagoon’s crystal-clear waters, surrounded by breathtaking views.
In the late afternoon, we return to Quito for an overnight stay.
