We are committed to promoting responsible tourism, sustainability is the founding pilar behind our lodge. We build upon this day by day although being green may be the longer and more costly path, we know that in the long term this will benefit our future generations and the wellbeing of our entire planet.

Lodge PhilosophieOur space is an eco lodge and our objective is to share a learning experience with our guests, where they can learn about conservation and the importance of living in harmony with nature. Our objective is to protect our patch of rainforest and promote respect for the local tribal cultures and their ancestral knowledge of the rainforest. A great part of our private forest reserve has been created by decades of reforestation. Our cabins have been built respecting the topography of the land and using recycled wood from already fallen trees. We use spring water for our lodge and pool, this means we use almost no chemicals to balance the water for bathing. We have a towel reuse program where we motivate our guests to use the same towel through their entire stay, we believe that together we can help reduce our environmental impact. Our cleaning products are biodegradable and we have been very careful in creating a sustainable supply chain where our partners respect and follow our same philosophy and environmental policies. We apply the same strict standards when hiring out our tours and excursions.

One of the most distinctive and attractions and features about Ecuador is it’s multicultural population. We work together with several indigenous communities with whom we have established a strong bond and we pay a fair price for their services.

The majority of our staff come from neighboring indigenous communities, they all enjoy proper labour benefits and most important they are treated with respect. As we mentioned above, they are the heart and soul at Hakuna Matata and together we are a small great family.

Welcome to Hakuna Matata Amazon Lodge, a small hidden paradise in the Ecuador Amazon basin, a special place where nothing is mandatory and everything is possible.

In the heart of Ecuador at just 3 ½ hours from Quito, our lodge is close yet off the beaten path, far away from mainstream tourist routes at a special place that invites you to dream.

If you look for exciting adventures or just want to relax on a hammock in our extended tropical garden, Hakuna Matata is the perfect backdrop for an Amazon jungle experience. You will find an idyllic atmosphere in harmony with nature and best of all mosquito free!. Our comfortable eco cabins offer a friendly and homely environment for you to enjoy the tropical rainforest.

What to bring?

Lightweight pants and long sleeved cotton shirts are ideal for walks in the forest. However, if you are more comfortable wearing short sleeves, remember that exposed skin may need a light dousing with insect repellant.

During the rain, full waterproof clothing can be uncomfortable as it often gets you wet with sweat instead of water, but rain ponchos are recommendable for tropical cloudbursts. Plenty of ponchos are available at no charge if you do not have your own, and we also supply rubber boots up to men’s size 14 for walks in the forest interior.

Comfortable shoes (or sandals), shorts and t-shirts are fine for walking on boardwalks and around the Lodge during meals and free time. And don’t forget your bathing suit!

What facilities are there in the room?

Our 16 rooms blend in perfectly without intruding into our tropical gardens, they are distributed into 4 different categories: Hakuna Cabins, Hakuna Lodge, Hakuna Supreme and our Hakuna Suite. The design in our rooms follows the typical tribal architecture of the Quichua people from Ecuador’s Amazon. We keep a rustic feel blended in with modern comfort. Each cabin has a small balcony or hammock terrace, modern and spacious bathrooms with organic amenities and hot water, orthopedic mattresses and high quality gel pillows. All these features are tastefully combined to create the ideal resting spot for a great sleep. Rooms are cleaned daily and it is our compromise to keep them spotless as part of making your stay comfortable.
